It's a Love Story

Our "Love Story" isn't unique, or heart wrenchingly dreamy. I suppose there is some romance to being married to an Air Force pilot, but no happy couple likes to be separated by hundreds of miles, no matter how patriotic the cause, and that's what pilots do. They fly away. However despite the heartache I know will come with my husband's first deployment, I can still say with all my heart it's worth it for the moments he's here. He really is my Romeo, knight in shining armor, and Prince Charming all in one. Not to mention he's very much a hero in our daughters' eyes. I love Taylor Swift's song Love Story, because despite its unrealistic lyrics of princes and princesses in love, it still reminds me of our own story. Probably because underneath all her pretty descriptions is a song about real, intoxicating, everlasting, butterflies-in-your-tummy love, and that's what we have.

  1. Ah Liz, just to think that I was there when the romance began!!!! I can only imagine the heartache that will come with deployment. I work at Fort Riley Army post and counsel couples and families and see the resiliency and heartache that comes with military life. However, I know you are strong and luckily it is just for 6 months, instead of 1 year, right?! You guys are great!!!

  2. Thanks Heidi! I do owe my college roommates for encouraging us to stay together, despite all the drama, usually started by yours truly.

Scott's deployments will usually only be about 2 months long, but he'll have to do them every 3 months. Home for 3, gone for 2, and so on . . .

  4. Boy, I really need to stay in better touch with you guys. When is Scott leaving, and where to? Wherever it is, I hope it goes by quickly, for both of you. I'll have to drop Scott a quick email from work sometime this week. We'll be sure to keep all of you in our prayers.

  5. Hey Katie C. and Jeff, don't worry, both of you are great friends and pay attention/keep in touch well. You didn't hear about him leaving yet, because we don't have the dates! We just know it's coming, and I'm already sad about it. I'm a silly girl, I know. Thank you for your comments. We really have some great friends.

  6. Angela again. I love that song! Dave is gone on another deployment and it's so hard to see him go. Two months go by fast though when you keep yourself busy. Remind him to sign you up for Hearts Apart. They have free activities for the families of those who are deployed.
